On Tuesday 20th February we had our latest Stem Aware maths event with Bready Jubilee PS and St Mary's Cloughcor. Our multiplication skills were challenged through games of 'Back 2 Back', 'Multiplication War' and 'Multiplication Bingo'. We thoroughly enjoyed having the chance to get to know more about our team mates from the other schools.
On Tuesday 6th of February we started the maths challenges with STEM Aware. We were put into our groups which we will stay in for the remainder of the programme. This will give us the opportunity to develop close friendships with the other children in our groups. We started off with some lego multiplication then we were set a challenge to build the longest bridge using lego. Whichever bridge was able to hold the most weight was deemed the winning bridge. We had great fun with this and there were some very interesting techniques used.
On Tuesday 20th February, year 5/6 took part in their latest STEM event with Bready Jubilee PS and St Mary's Cloughcor. Our multiplication skills were challenged through games of 'Back 2 Back', 'Multiplication War' and 'Multiplication Bingo'. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children in the other schools and we are starting to develop some close friendships.
In Nursery we couldn't resist having lots of fun in the snow. We wrapped up cosy warm with our coats, hats, scarves and gloves along with our wellies and headed out for some fun. We really enjoyed trying to throw snowballs at the adults and we made a great attempt at making a snowman.
On Thursday 8th January both pupils from the Nursery and Primary School were given permission to break some schools rules. The nursery children had the option of breaking one, two or all 3 of the following rules:
- Wear no school uniform
- Have crazy hair
- Come into Nursery late
The children had lots of fun taking part and even the staff in Nursery managed to break all 3 rules. Well done everyone!!
Year 2/3 watched the story of Smartie the Penquin. We discussed all the problems he had using his new Ipad.
We all decided that we had to ask for help rather than press buttons and get into a bigger computer mess.
It is Smart to 'Ask'
On Monday, year 5/6 visited a garden centre in Strabane to learn about the different plants and flowers growing. Our trip was centred around the Pushkin Trust's theme 'Opening Ground'. We had a quick tour then had the opportunity to plant some daffodil bulbs in pots. After that we made our way to the Alley Theatre where we had lunch before beginning a creative writing workshop with Frank Galligan.
This week, we have been making our very own 'The very hungry caterpillar' books in class. We have been talking about how we need to eat healthily, but it is okay to have an occasional treat. To that end, we decided everyone on the class deserved a treat. The children went in small groups and measured the ingredients, then baked the buns in the oven. On the following day we decorated the buns using icing and chocolate treats. Lastly, we enjoyed the buns in class, they were delicious!
Our next school disco is on Thursday 8th February. Check our poster, designed by Year 5 pupils, for more information!
