This week we focused on 'Book Talk.' We as adults did lots of talking about how and when story time takes place in our homes, what books our children like to read and why we think children chose the books that they do. We discussed ways that parents can extend their child's thinking through using open and closed questions and also ideas of activities that can be carried out after, that are related to the chosen story. When the children joined us after the break, they were able to spend a short time sitting with their Mummy to explore a new book.
In Nursery on Thursday the children who stayed for extended nursery made sparklers. Don't worry Mum's and Dad's they are safe and were made using lots of yummy treats.
Today was a very exciting day in our classroom as it was our first visit from Baby Ralph and his Mummy as part of our Roots of Empathy Program. The children welcomed Baby Ralph by singing to him and touching his feet as his Mummy walked him around our special green blanket. We found out what Baby Ralph can do and can’t do just yet. We measured and weighed Baby Ralph and compared him to our Roots of Empathy doll. We thoroughly enjoyed our session with Baby Ralph and already looking forward to his next visit. Thank you Ralph and Victoria!
Have a listen to this fantastic version of Little Red Riding Hood captured during our play!
We programmed our robots to move around buildings and arrive at a parking spot. We added lights and sounds to our robots at the zebra crossing.
On Wednesday the nursery boys and girls went on an Autumn walk around our school grounds. They enjoyed looking at all the different trees and they were able to find trees that had very little leaves left. We looked at all the different shapes, sizes and colours of the leaves and we brought 2 full bags back to use in nursery during our play. We had our wellies on and had so much fun walking and swishing through all the crunchy leaves.
Today we welcomed Nicky and Nicola from Allstate in Strabane to our school. They told the girls in year 7 all about some inspirational women in the world. The girls were given beautiful books to read and activity books to complete. We look forward to our next visit from Nicky and Nicola in November.
