On Friday we celebrated the beginning of Accelerated Reading in our school. Children in Year 5, 6 and 7 have been reading to earn points. This is a brilliant opportunity for our pupils to “accelerate their reading”. Well done to all the boys and girls who have made it onto our points board and received their raffle tickets to win a bar of chocolate. We are excited to see who has moved up the board this week. Keep reading everyone!
This week our session was all about the importance of praise. We shared an interesting fact - with every 1 positive comment we give to our children we also give them 8 negative comments. It made us think about the types of praise that we give to our children on a daily basis. We talked about specific, genuine, focused on effort and without a sting in the tail. I hope all our parents who have taken part, are consciously thinking about the type of praise they are using at home with all their children. We all made 1 praise star to use at home and we also got to take home resources to make a star for every member of our family.
The boys and girls in Year 6 and 7 enjoyed a visit from Mr Hampton, Mr Bratton and two pupils from Year 8. They heard all about the wonderful new facilities at Strabane Academy and are invited to their Open Evening on Thursday 30th Jan.
Well done to Amy in P7 who won a prize for completing a treasure hunt at the open evening at Lisneal College.
On Wednesday four children from Year 7 travelled to the Guildhall with Mrs Harper to take part in a Road Safety Quiz alongside other local schools. Penny, Ron, Matthew And Mya received a goody bag and a certificate. They were presented their certificates in assembly. Well done boys and girls!
Mr Campbell’s class and Miss Moore’s class have been extra busy this week and we have lots of new members to T Team who know their 2 and 10 times tables and are now ‘Cubs’. Other children are moving up the T Team board and are working so hard on their times tables and division facts. Well done everyone, fantastic work this week!
In this theme we talked to Baby Joanna’s Mummy about how Baby Joanna sleeps and what little comforters she has to help her sleep. We measured and weighed Baby Joanna to see how much she had grown since her first visit.
This term our class will be looking at the topic 'People who help us'. Our class has identified that are lots of people that help us on a daily basis. These people include; Police Officers, Firefighters, Farmers, Teachers and loads more.
Today Mr Campbell asked the children in his year 3/4 class to become Police officers, but not just any police officers, they had to become detectives. The children had to crack codes and find where Mr Campbell had hidden his secret agents, their aim was to rescue them. The children had to work as a team to solve these problems.
Everyone cracked the codes and released the secret agents, Hooray!!
I wonder who will help us next?
