Y6 enjoyed learning new skills with children from Bready and St. Mary's Cloughcor PS. Watch out for the sharks lurking under the colourful rainbow sea!
Last week our class started Pushkin workshops with Frank Galligan. In groups we created a verse for a school eco song to the tune of Bob Dylan’s hit single ‘Blowin in the wind’. Frank encouraged us to think about issues affecting our world and animals that are being affected.
This week we travelled to Melmount Nursing Home where we performed our song to the residents. Throughout the afternoon children had opportunities to chat with the residents and Frank told us all many funny stories and read some of his favorite poems to us which we really enjoyed.
We have had lots of fun in Nursery before our Halloween holidays. Don't get too scared when you look at all our spooky costumes!!!!
This week during our session of Families Connect, we focused on 'Beyond the page.' We talked about the many different ways that children can be exposed to language and how we can tell stories using lots of resources other than a book. The children and parents were able to experience creating their own stories using children's toys, pictures from magazines and picture cards. We also explored the CBeebies Storytime app that provides invaluable experiences to extend children's reading and comprehension skills.
Today in p2/3 we have been learning about why we wear poppies at this time of year. We also learned about what the colours of the poppy mean then we created our own poppy collages.
P2/3 enjoyed a visit from Environmentalist Lynn Greer who talked to us about different forest animals and how they hibernate for the winter. Did you know that bats wrap themselves up in their wings to keep warm and hibernate in trees? Hedgehogs snuggle up in a ball in the autumn leaves to hibernate. Their hearts only beat twice a minute when in hibernation and they wake up in Spring. We enjoyed making our own leaf crowns. Have a look!
We have been learning about Remembrance day in class and today we used lots of different objects to make our very own poppy fields. The red reminds us of the blood, the black reminds us of the sadness but the green brings hope that new life will come and happy times are ahead.
All of our year 6’s had so much fun yesterday at Bready Cricket Club. We played lots of different sporting activities such a boxing, football and bowling along with our friends from Bready PS and Cloughcor PS. This term our focus on shared ed is physical activity which is being led by Everybody Active coaches from the district council. The coaches were all fantastic and great fun. Thank you!
