Now that all our donations have been gathered in and counted we are so proud to say that we raised £511.36 for Cancer Focus NI. We also have sent £105 direct to Cancer Focus to sign up to March a Million. Our donations in lieu of presents at Christmas came to a total of £860 making a final total of £1476.46 to be presented to Rosie from Cancer Focus NI in the coming weeks.
We cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity and we know that our very special Mrs Craig will be so so proud of everyone’s efforts. We can imagine her laugh and smile watching everyone stepping around the roads of Artigarvan and beyond and those famous words for a full month were “how many steps are you on now?”
Most of you will know what an amazing teacher Mrs Craig was at Artigarvan P.S, some of the parents will remember her fondly as Miss Chapman. We all have so many wonderful memories of Mrs Craig not just as a teacher but as an amazing friend to all the staff at our school. Together the staff of our school walked 7,087,769 steps in the month of March and we will be so proud to hand over all money raised in memory of such an amazing lady and teacher to so many children over the years π₯°
Thank you to everyone who supported this worthy cause π
We have been learning about measurement in Y5/6. Yesterday we worked with our study buddies to test if a persons height is 3 times the distance around their head. This was not the case for our class.
Today we went outside and measured the distance of our jumps. Apparently how far you can jump depends on your height. A lot of us recorded our jump to be the exact same length as our height!
Some of us almost jumped 2 metres!
Today was Year 2/3 turn to bring their bikes to school...it was lots of fun having a chance to play on our bikes and scooters outside. π΄π»βοΈ π΄π»βοΈ
This morning Year 2/3 got their green fingers out as they made wildflower seed bombs. Each group had a tray of soil which they mixed with some grit, this made some very messy hands but in the words of Finn “this is so relaxing” and a lot of fun was had. The children loved mixing in the seeds and the water together then we took our trays outside to put our seed bombs out on the grass through the fence. We can’t wait to see if they grow.
What a way to start a Monday morning. This week our school are participating in the Sustran's Big Pedal. Today was our selected day to cycle/scoot to school and what a fantastic effort the nursery class have went to! 19 children either cycled or scooted to Nursery and we all had so much fun out in the 'big playground' on our bikes and scooters.
Well done everyone you all did amazing!!
PS: Even some of the grown ups brought their scooter to school too! :)
We would like to say a big big thank you to the boys and girls in Mrs Kane's class as they have been very busy looking after our school grounds. They noticed lots of weeds along the paths and got to work pulling them out. Such a difference you have all made, thank you!!
Today we got outside for some outdoor play. Firstly we started off with our story time outside. This was a real treat for us. After story time we got very busy!!
We have now got a new stone area to play with our trucks and vehicles and it is has been very popular today. The children also had lots of fun in our sand pit and they were very busy digging in the sunshine. We have 2 playhouses now and the children loved exploring how one house is big and the other one is smaller.
What a super outdoor play session today - we had lots of fun!
We have now skipped for 45 minutes! I am so proud of all the boys and girls and how much dedication and effort they are putting into our wee challenge!
At the start of this challenge some of the boys were very apprehensive and now I have them telling me how much they love skipping!
It helps that we are getting beautiful weather to complete all our skipping ππππ
We have done a total of 30 minutes of skipping now and it’s making us all feel FANTASTIC πππππ
One boy said today that he felt like he was better at it today than he was yesterday πππ
Others even informed me this morning that they practiced at home yesterday evening! Amazing dedication πͺ
And then as if they hadn’t skipped enough I spied them skipping again at lunch! (Check out my sneaky window pictures π΅οΈβοΈ)
Half way there! Stay tuned for all our updates.
We all returned to the classroom before Easter after a long 3 months of remote learning. We were all very excited to return to school, but it can still be very challenging adjusting to ‘normal’ school life again. We talked about the 5 ways to help our mental well-being.
Evidence suggests there are 5 steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing. Trying these things could help you feel more positive and able to get the most out of life. One of the five is exercise. Before Easter we decided to take part in an exercise challenge!!!
This week, over the course of 4 days, we will be skipping for one whole hour!
Check out the video and photos from today! Mrs McClelland is joining in too of course but she isn’t half as fit as the Y5/6 boys and girls!
Our challenge will be documented here every day so stay tuned!
