Look at the excitement on those little faces!
Last week we started our new class novel - David Williams ‘Awful Auntie’. Everyone is really enjoying it so far and we just can’t wait to find out what the family mystery is.
All of the boys and girls have had a lovely day for world kindness day today.
Our anti-bullying ambassadors created little baskets with random acts of kindness for every class. Every child chose one and had to carry out their act at some point throughout the day. Some children helped the teacher, gave compliments and some drew pictures or wrote notes for their teachers and classroom assistants.
We also created lovely kindness posters. Please check out some of the photos. They are just so beautiful!
Last week our Anti-bullying ambassadors had a meeting to discuss what we could do for World Kindness day. We decided it would be nice to send thank you letters and some pictures to Altnagelvin. We thought with all their hard work during this world wide pandemic they would like a little pick me up. We posted them on Tuesday and got a lovely phone call on Thursday to thank us and to tell us how much they meant to all the staff.
Today we had such a lovely surprise when a lady called Nicola who is a theatre nurse came to our school to thank us in person ! She even brought us all treats! What a lovely gesture :)
We are just so delighted that our letters brought a smile to someone’s face.
Remember in a world where you can be anything - BE KIND!
We have been learning how to change the tense of verbs in literacy. Today we played a memory game where we had to match the correct present, future and past tense.
Is there any better maths lesson than one you can eat at the end?
This week we have been learning all about division.
We have shared sweets into equal groups and we have also used our sweets to learn about remainders.
We have linked multiplication and division and participated in lots of practical activities.
Today, P5/6 were learning about instructional writing. They helped Miss Moore make some tasty treats to celebrate Pancake Tuesday and then wrote their own recipe to try at home! Who knew literacy could be so tasty?
Year 5/6 have been progressing well with their Mandarin lessons each week with Ren. Last week they learnt all about Chinese food and the importance of chopsticks to the Chinese culture. They even had a go trying to use chopsticks themselves!
Every Thursday, pupils will be increasing their problem solving skills through Investigative Maths. We started last week with the 'Magic V's'. The rules: the numbers 1 to 5 had to be put into the V shape so that the two arms of the V have the same total - without using the same number twice. This was extended to using the numbers 2-6. Lots of different strategies and methods were put into action during this lesson and all the boys and girls showed great determination!
Year 4, 5, 6 and 7 all had a ball on their end of year trip to Arena 7.
We played bowls and a game of laser tag which was a first for many and proved very enjoyable!
The day was finished with a delicious lunch.
The children represented Artigarvan PS so well as always.
Have a lovely summer everyone!
A number of children have been working on progressing their phonics and reading skills through Headsprout, an online reading programme. Gerry, the headsprout leader has commented on the fantastic progress made by all of the children. The children were congratulated in assembly and presented with a certificate and a prize. Well done everyone!
