We are so impressed with our Year 6 and Year 7 pupils as they created beautiful bird boxes today with Damien and David from F.R.O.G outdoor educators. Each child will get to take home the bird box that they made and we also have a few to put up around school. The boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed this activity.
Year 5 had a fun trip to Gortin on Wednesday for part of our Shared Education. We went along with Donemana PS and St Michaels PS. We participated in scavenger hunt activities, learnt about the different types of trees in the forest and fun facts about squirrels. We found things from the forest and made art work from the items. Our group spelt out the message, "Don't litter". We all had so much fun in the play park before coming back to school.
For Children's Mental Health week we all participated in an online art lesson with Sinead McDermott from the art and design factory. Sinead’s aim was to reduce anxiety and stress through art and all the boys and girls really enjoyed it!
Mrs McClelland has been absolutely blown away with the talent in her class this week. The boys and girls were set a topic homework where they had to think of a local place that is special to them and create it from scrap materials. This ties in well with our topic ‘Being and Belonging’. The children then showed off their projects to the class and shared why their place was special to them.
Well done boys and girls!
Today we participated in lots of fun activities all about internet safety. Firstly, we worked in groups to rank certain situation and scenarios in order from highest to lowest risk to children, most seen on the internet to least seen and most annoying to least annoying. We then talked about how our bodies feel if we experience any of those situations and who we can talk to. In groups we each drew a person and thought of adjectives of how they would feel.
Finally, we created our own listening superheroes. We talked about what makes a good listener and played role play games on how to listen.
Year 5’s enjoyed a walk around their local Village this morning. We revised our Green Cross Code before leaving school and looked out for hazards during our walk. We found safe places to cross the road and identified permanent and temporary hazards.
We all had so much fun playing outside today in the snow!
All of the year 6’s enjoyed their first session of shared education at Strabane Academy on Monday. The boys and girls all participated in rugby alongside Bready and Cloughcor PS. We can’t wait for our next session.
The boys and girls have all been enjoying ‘Charlotte’s Web’ in class. We all thought of different food items for Wilbur the pig and used adjectives to describe these. Some children described them in a very appealing way and some sounded completely revolting! We then designed and created a menu for Wilbur using Microsoft Word. The boys and girls learnt how to insert a border, use bullet points and insert a picture. Check out some of the amazing menus. What would you choose to eat? 🤭
Mrs McClelland’s class finished their ten week block of swimming lessons in Riversadale Leisure Centre yesterday.
Today the boys and girls have received their certificates to celebrate how far each child can swim.
This class will have a second block of swimming lessons later in the school year. We can’t wait to see how much you will improve over these lessons.
