Latest News - Year 5/6
Every Thursday, year 5s will be taking part in Badminton in Artigarvan Hall. Last Thursday, George - our instructor - taught us how to hold our rackets properly and taught us how to serve. We all really enjoyed it and are looking forward to learning more this week!
We had our first lesson in our outdoor classroom today. We learnt all about the lifecycle of a sunflower and then planted our own. We can’t wait to watch them grow.
The Year 5’s and Year 6’s from Mrs McClelland class attended a local cricket blitz at Strabane Academy. The weather was beautiful and all the kids had great fun. Thank you to David from the Northwest Cricket Union for organising this, we had a blast.
All the Year 5’s and 6’s enjoyed EA’s show at the Millennium Forum last Wednesday. What a treat it was getting a double decker bus to take us!
Y6 enjoyed a morning of bowls with our Shared Education friends - St. Mary’s PS and Bready PS.
This week we have been doing lots of exciting activities to celebrate WBD 2023. We have been playing games, taking part in quizzes, dressing up and reading and listening to stories. Check out our photos - can you see what the most common character/theme was in our class?
We are so impressed with our Year 6 and Year 7 pupils as they created beautiful bird boxes today with Damien and David from F.R.O.G outdoor educators. Each child will get to take home the bird box that they made and we also have a few to put up around school. The boys and girls thoroughly enjoyed this activity.
Year 5 had a fun trip to Gortin on Wednesday for part of our Shared Education. We went along with Donemana PS and St Michaels PS. We participated in scavenger hunt activities, learnt about the different types of trees in the forest and fun facts about squirrels. We found things from the forest and made art work from the items. Our group spelt out the message, "Don't litter". We all had so much fun in the play park before coming back to school.
For Children's Mental Health week we all participated in an online art lesson with Sinead McDermott from the art and design factory. Sinead’s aim was to reduce anxiety and stress through art and all the boys and girls really enjoyed it!
Mrs McClelland has been absolutely blown away with the talent in her class this week. The boys and girls were set a topic homework where they had to think of a local place that is special to them and create it from scrap materials. This ties in well with our topic ‘Being and Belonging’. The children then showed off their projects to the class and shared why their place was special to them.
Well done boys and girls!
