Latest News - Year 5/6
All the boys and girls are really enjoying our current topic all about farming. Mrs McClelland even finds herself learning interesting information from some of the young farmers in Y5/6!
One of our Y6’s kindly brought in some food that they feed their ewes and rams on her Granda’s farm. Alesha was able to confidently talk to the whole class explaining the different types of food and how often they are fed. She also was able to tell us how different types of food might affect the ewes milk supply.
Another pupil in Y5 brought in some photos of his dads farming machinery and was able to tell us how a seed drill sows barley. Adam loved showing us all the photos, especially his dad and the tractor photos. Proud son!
Well done!
Year 5 were kindly invited to Foyle College on Tuesday morning to take part in a carousel of activities. We made chocolate swizzles in home economics, played rugby and hockey in PE and learnt the parts of our body in Spanish class. We were also treated to a packet of sweets and a biscuit for break.
On Friday, the children in Mr Campbell's class were treated to a workshop from the Waterside Theatre Company. We enjoyed talking and listening to a local author called Robert Campbell and a local illustrator called Zoe.
The boys and girls had a great day doing several workshops. Check out the Waterside Theatre in on Instagram, to see the cool activities we took part in. We heard about the travels of captain Timmy and we used our drawing skills to make illustrations for different parts of the book.
Check out the pictures to see how much fun we had!!
This term we have been learning about bridges. We have been looking at several local bridges and how they were constructed. Today it was the children’s turn to design and make their own bridge but there was a twist!! They could only use spaghetti and marshmallows to make their own. Construction started well but some children ran into the problem of materials going missing 🤪 (eaten). Everyone worked well within a group and everyone had a great time doing this activity. Have a look at the finished bridges!! 👍
This week has been Anti-Bullying Week. To celebrate our fantastic school, the children were allowed to wear odd socks to celebrate that everyone is different. Have a look at the pictures below.
